The Lorax

The cutest, most wonderful, best book ever is probably The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. It is full of bright colors and rhyming and adorable, fluffy trees! Yes, it is notoriously full of his opinions on political issues, but Dr. Seuss himself said that he was "subversive as hell," and I am totally okay with that. Plus, everyone loves trees and frolicking, happy animals!

It's really sad when all of the Bar-ba-loots have to leave because they have no more shade or Truffula fruits and it is too smoggy for the Swomee-Swans and the water is full of sludge, so the Humming-Fish have to leave, too! All because the Once-ler chopped down all the Truffula trees so that he could make and sell Thneeds.

But even though all of the trees and animals are gone at the end (the Lorax, too!), there is still hope! "But now, says the Once-ler, Now that you're here, the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear. UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not. SO... Catch! calls the Once-ler. He lets something fall. It's a Truffula Seed. It's the last one of all! You're in charge of the last of the Truffula Seeds. And Truffula Trees are what everyone needs. Plant a new Truffula. Treat it with care. Give it clean water. And feed it fresh air. Grow a forest. Protect it from axes that hack. Then the Lorax and all of his friends may come back."

Aaaaaaw!

Love, Jillian
